I don’t trample your mind with the problems of Knysna for pessimism’s sake. I do so because the immense failure that our local politicians are refuse to address the most important issues affecting our lives. You cannot deal with a problem unless you name it.
I’m not pretending there’s an easy fix. If anything, it’ll be a damn hard struggle that could take forever…but i believe in the value of knowing where we stand. I don’t believe in taking the money of naive semi-retirees or business people who come to Knysna only to lose everything in a short period of time. That does not help our town.
We’re a town without a Ratepayer’s Association or a Chamber of Business. No matter how small Knysna is, most people would find it hard to name more than one of our many politicians. Our Ward Committees, our public representation, are invisible. Our Community Policing Forum (CPF) claims crime is down when it’s sky high.
There’s no working together. Knysna needs to get its act together!
Identify the problem. Embrace them. Adjust our lives accordingly and knowingly. And ensure that Knysna Municipality stands with us, not against us, honest whilst sharing the mess and the joys of our lives. Knysna, as i’ve said many times, is worth fighting for.
