Robert Mugabe’s resignation letter as President of Zimbabwe is horribly hypocritical. He hasn’t been concerned with the welfare of ‘his’ people for decades. A cynic may think he’s more interested in keeping some of his loot whilst he and his wife go unpunished for their violation of human rights and divine right to greed. Other monsters (his long-time accomplices and murderers of those not of their tribe and party), will now take over the country. Some will conveniently hail them as heroes. SONA was explosive. It demonstrated that Jacob Zuma and the ANC are willing to use force, ban communication and all round break the law to get their way. If a psychiatrist were ticking off a checklist, he or she would undoubtedly diagnose Dictatorial tendencies. I’ve always found opposition’s end game to take power to be diluted as i doubt that the ANC would give up power if it lost the vote. What happened at SONA suggests that’s true. Zuma’s hands on power are slipping. He’s becoming desperate. Riot police storming into South Africa’s parliament to chuck out an opposition MP was as illegal as it gets. Like the Marikana Massacre, it’s another nail in the fantasy that South Africa is a democracy. Zuma isn’t bothering to hide that he’s a budding dictator and doesn’t believe in the constitution and equal rights. Where to from here?
