Knysna central (i.e. Ward 10) is overwhelmingly white and DA (think the win last election was 94% in favour of the DA) so “Keep Your Ward DA” is a ridiculous election sign because it suggests we should be scared of the ANC (who else) taking it over. Well, the ANC’s chances of winning it are slimmer than NASA finding 3-headed, yellow and gold aliens on Pluto.
What’s more laughable is that the DA, such a big party, couldn’t run a candidate from the area so got Peter Myers from Brenton to run here.
Further irony is that the politician for Brenton, Eleonor Spies, comes from Hornlee.
Politics makes me laugh so much sometimes that it makes me depressed (George Carlin and Bill Hicks would’ve been proud).
A better election strategy and honesty would have been to run on issues that affect our area e.g. in contravention of the rules of government, the Ward 10 Committee (supposed to NOT be political but is exactly that) received unbudgeted funds which, without consultation with the public, decided to spend it the way they wanted (one example is on chairs for the walkway leading to Costa Sarda – there are more important issues!).
Shouldn’t the conversation be talking about crime, empty shops, decaying signs, broken sidewalks, age of pipes, compensation for Grey St. showowners etc.???? Anything BUT a sign that makes no sense and a pamphlet that lists the candidates education instead of issues?
If the DA wants to prove that they’re better than the ANC, all they have to do is have a manifesto that is specific to Ward 10, a commitment that they can be upheld to and judged by. C’mon, Peter Myers, you’re a clever guy but you need to show us some love too. We need you to be honest, accountable, brave, to go where no DA politician has gone the past 4 years…
