OUR GREAT KNYSNA FIRE: Just got home. Ash everywhere but relieved that home still here. Battling with asthma and, like many of you, worried about friends.
This is our moment to put all divisions aside and be ONE TOWN. Let’s put Knysna first.
If anyone can help with information, please post on the Love Knysna Facebook or any Facebook.
Last i heard, fires were as widespread as Karatara and Kranshoek, the flames closing the N2 both sides of Knysna, isolating us.
The Rheenendal fire jumped across the highway, causing Belvidere to be evacuated. Brenton-on-Sea, from Uitzicht to Featherbed was in trouble, people forced to stand on the beach. Residents of Lake Brenton, caught in between, were working together to protect their area.
Springveld, or a village near there, was evacuated.
Cellphone’s not working. Knysna Central has lost power. Some places have lost power lines which has caused water and sewerage pumps to stop working. I’m unsure how long we will have internet – i battled to send this as it kept switching off.
Source of original fires unclear however it’s possible that lightning started it later, on the West Head.
To those living in town, Knysna Municipality requests: “Please may we ask that these goods be delivered to Metelerkamp’s across the road from the Knysna Fire Station, as our personnel are too busy to accept and log the foodstuff arriving.”
I’M WISHING EVERYONE THE BEST. MAY YOU AND YOUR FAMILIES BE SAFE! Special hearts sent our to our fire and rescue services. Love Knysna, save Knysna!
