I have much bigger articles landing on this topic later but, in the meanwhile, what do you think?
With the scandal that’s hit Knysna’s elephants, animal rights activists have been loud whilst many locals have given their support to Knysna Elephant Park, saying that abuse stories are a lie and their elephants are healthy.
Is there value in children and families being introduced to elephants and educated about them? Is training, through positive reinforcement, ok? Is elephant-back riding ok? Should animals be left in the wild? What of rescues?
As always, i want to know what you, my reader, believe and want. Please think carefully before voting because you are essentially saying what is good or bad for Knysna (though i expect you to think in the larger context too). Weigh opposing topics such as elephant rides, training methods, conservation, exploitation for profit and education – www.knysnakeep.org/polls-cast-your-vote.
