This is how to try screw over everyone in Knysna at once. MEC Alan Winde, MEC Anton Bredell and Mayor Georlene Wolmarans – SHAME ON YOU.
The latest episode, which will appear on the agenda of the Knysna Mayoral Committee on Thursday this week, is ultimate proof that the DA favours big business over any of us.
Nothing is more important than the ISDF (Integrated Strategic Development Framework). All decisions made for Knysna (roads, human settlements) will have to fall under this plan for an estimated 30 years. Do you remember what Knysna was like before Thesen Islands? Can you imagine double that length of time into the future? YOU NEED TO UNDERSTAND HOW IMPORTANT THIS IS TO YOUR LIFE.
The ISDF tender was ‘awarded’ to the Knysna Creative Heads Consortium which is headed by Chris Mulder, the developer of Thesen Islands. Another main figure is Marike Vreken who runs a “private Town Planning consultancy” – need a controversial development to go ahead, then these are the people to go to. Their receiving the first ISDF tender stuck out like a thumb that had been jackhammered because the tender rules said that there can be no conflict of interest… yet Knysna Municipality gave it to the PEOPLE WITH THE MOST CONFLICT OF INTEREST.
The controversy wouldn’t die and became a regular feature on KnysnaKeep.org for 2 years. Undoubtedly, the greatest champion for Knysna during this affair was Susan Campbell who has a passion for environmental law. She showed again and again that supply chain management and laws had been broken. An independent report highlighted the conflict between the Knysna Municipality and the public.
The DA, headed by Mayor Georlene Wolmarans, were extremely unhelpful but, suddenly, late in May 2014, she sent a request to MEC Alan Winde for the allegations to be investigated. It was odd because no facts had changed yet she’d done an about turn. That only made sense if the DA were wanting to put the matter, much objected to by their white voters, to rest before the 2015 municipal elections. How to put it to rest was the question? Would they punish those involved or whitewash it?
We now know that WHITEWASH was the plan… but the DA has failed spectacularly at it.
MEC Anton Bredell’s led the ‘investigation’ into the Knysna ISDF but kept delaying the results which was a sure sign that something was amiss – it was!
This week, finally, the report is in and has been placed on the agenda for the Mayoral Committee meeting. If it’s passed, it goes onto the normal Council Meeting where it gains final approval. IT HAS TO BE STOPPED.
Ironically (which will soon become apparent), Bredell agreed with most of the actions of impropriety:
Despite these massive, glaring, gigantic, gargantuan problems, MEC Bredell has declared the tender awarding compliant. That’s like saying 3 minus 3 equals 6 when it is supposed to equal 0. That’s like saying crimes committed against Knysna don’t matter.
Why would he and his cohorts do this? The only answer that makes sense is that big business in Knysna is more important to the DA than us.
