This is a complaint against Knysna Municipality for:
1. Illegally favouring a political party on Facebook.
2. Abusing the official Facebook page for advertising.
It is also a follow-up on:
3. The illegal contracting of Mayor Eleanore Spies’ friend, Fran Kirsten.
CHOOSING SIDES NOT ALLOWED
A municipality is legally obliged to be non-partisan i.e. in order to run effectively for all citizens, it cannot take political sides.
For there to be check and balance, the politicians must be separated from the Administration of the Municipality. Our recent history has shown that line to have been erased, the administration seemingly working for the Democratic Alliance.
The Knysna Communications Department shared DA Mayor Eleanore Spies’ Facebook post against President Jacob Zuma (attached). I may also have strong feelings against him but, unlike many, i despise all corruption, starting with the DA’s in our home town (because that’s where we can most effect change). Whereas my expressed feelings against Helen Zille and Jacob Zuma are allowed, the Knysna Municipality isn’t permitted to do the same.
It’s not only the illegality of the posting but the sheer stupidity of it. Knysna receives funding from a national tax base. Why piss off the President?
Is this possibly the result of illegally hiring Fran Kirsten, Mayor Spies’ election manager and former journalist for the biased Knysna-Plett Herald? It is notable that the Knysna Municipality has refused to acknowledge that complaint and investigate (again, as the law requires).
WHO GETS ADVERTISED?
Secondly, the posting of adverts (attached) must be dealt with carefully i.e. why advertise for one but not another?
I strongly believe that we, as a town and government, must promote cultural events but that doesn’t explain how one event gets 4 adverts in the space of 9 days. Or is that because one of the sponsors is friends with the DA? It’s similar to Elaine King, editor of the Knysna-Plett Herald, using the newspaper to twice advertise the hairdressing salon she uses.
Will Knysna Municipality, for the first time in over 6 years, effectively deal with a complaint from me? This should include the issue of Fran Kirsten’s illegal contract which has earned her approximately R350,000 so far.
Please provide me a Colab reference number. Additionally, explain why i’m not automatically receiving one when mailing email@example.com.
NB: I hope this post ironically helps advertise that movie, ‘Beyond the River’, for culture’s sake and, especially, racial understanding and unity.
PS: There was no official response to my email regarding the advertising but there was a response of a different kind – the advert got posted a fifth and sixth time.
