For the past 6 months, since Knysna Municipal Manager, Johnny Douglas, got “kicked out” (along with a golden handshake courtesy of the tax payer…but without our permission) , i’ve regularly said in conversation that Acting Municipal Manager, Lauren Waring, would become permanent in that position.
Lauren Waring is neck deep with the DA, particularly Deputy Mayor Michelle Wasserman and Mayor Georlene Wolmarans. She’s a liar too (i caught her out in a Ward meeting with a lie worth millions – at the same meeting she attempted to make Ward 10 follow her agenda for the next 5 years instead of more important issues such as crime, unemployment, tourism and pollution of the Knysna Estuary).
She’s also unapproachable (except for the smoke and mirror media stuff) and it wouldn’t surprise me if she’s made some of the managers below her share that negative attitude. On the other hand, she’s hamstrung some departments, forcing decisions to be made through her rather than by those delegated to do so. It wouldn’t surprise me if she flexed her DA skirt and sacked some ANC people. And then there’d be oohs and ahs of praise for all the wrong reasons so that her true nature and actions are overlooked.
Yes, i realize that i’m sounding radical here but all of the above could be summed up by the fact that i don’t trust liars. The DA promises that the Knysna Municipality was won with were immediately corrupted. It seems that Knysna, like Plettenberg Bay, is being run from Cape Town (if so, that doesn’t bode good for our interest).
I remind those “liberal, white DA supporters who aren’t my fans that i belong to no party (i’d work with any politician, no matter their political affiliation, if they committed to doing what is right for Knysna rather than for themselves). This blog seeks the truth. Our beautiful town is in shit so we need it more than ever. Our “leaders” also get paid damn well so we should expect them to do their job (i believe that Lauren gets over R100 000 per month – hey, Lauren, care to tell us exactly how much?).
If Lauren Waring wants to show integrity and start positively then let her explain why Johnny Douglas is no more, how much he was paid, and why the Knysna Municipality and DA have refused to answer questions about it for the past 6 months. Then let her open her doors to positive discussion.
PS: I changed the The Keep’s logo so that it better reflects the duality of our town, it’s beauty and hopes versus the lies and incompetent politicians that attack it. The final prompting was Lauren Waring becoming Municipal Manager. We have a choice of 2 futures. Which do you choose?
