Do you want serious issues affecting your life to be heard in public? Do you want to be able to ask questions afterwards. Do you want the repeated scandals of Knysna to be put to rest? If so, help me encourage our Mayor of Transparency, Eleanore Bouw-Spies, to hold a public meeting.
I previously posted a poll asking if you wanted more meetings between me and local government /or/ if you consider it a waste of time. Considering what’s happened, it’s more appropriate that i address the Mayor directly.
That original poll never gained much attention, approximately 60 people voting over a few days, the “yes” answer ahead. But when the Mayor decided to misrepresent me in a press release, the voting jumped in favour of “no”.
I assumed my enemies, government staff and colleagues, had wanted to distort the poll so as to discourage my meeting with government. That seemed proven true when i discovered that one of the anonymously run sites, previously proven to have the DA behind it, asked people to vote no. Additionally, ex-DA politicians and people i’ve been in court with over DA linked matters, were found to be negatively sharing the Mayor’s press release. One ex-DA candidate was happy to do so whilst breaking the interim order i have against her.
Biased comments followed, none addressing the obvious fact that the Mayor had excluded what had happened in our meeting. Luckily, i had recorded it.
I assume that the same crowd has jumped to “no” on this new poll, 33 having remarkably done so even before i’d posted this blog. I can’t imagine anyone not wanting to hear both sides unless they have hidden motive.
But one could argue that democracy is when one gets to vote no matter their reason.
Do people in Knysna care about transparency, want to hear all sides of every argument affecting their lives, and decide for themselves the truth?
