In 2005, Jessica Wheeler and Victoria Stadler were murdered in Knysna. Heinrich van Rooyen, a nightclub DJ who knew both girls, was convicted. However, many support Van Rooyen’s innocence, believing that the police were too quick to convict for the sake of the tourist town’s image and revenue. There were disturbing questions too. Why were the murders so different. Why did Stadler’s murder match the modus operandi of a third murder, Peter McHelm’s, for which others were convicted? Is Van Rooyen guilty or innocent? Or are the facts so grey that the case needs to be reopened?
