The Free State province has paid a whopping R40 million for their website! And that’s if they’re telling the truth because the price has been said to be as high as R140 million. It’s go-go Free State and 3 cheers for government corruption.
It gets worse. Apparently the website runs on a WordPress theme called London Live which can be purchased for R350. Sure, it helps to have a WordPress lover handy for the modifications but i can assure that my Knysna Website Design business has never charged anything near that – damn those specials i run:) At that price, i would have thrown in another website for free – for Cherry Online Design, the company that made Freestate Online, who doesn’t even have a website. They are on Facebook and have 31 likes of which most are outraged citizens.
It gets worse than worse. There is no management of the website to be seen. It’s flooded with spam comments and, thankfully, anger against the latest abuse by South Africa’s politicians.
The signer of this infamous deal was Elzabe Rockman, Director General of the Free State Provincial Government and proud member of the ANC. With supreme irony, her background includes being treasurer of the Executive Committee and the secretary responsible for finance and information technology of SALSA. She also served on the Board of Directors of the Gauteng and Free State Legislatures Joint Provident Fund. She has also served as the Chairperson of the Audit Committee of the Mangaung Local Municipality. Rockman was appointed as head of monitoring and evaluation in the Department of the Premier in 2009 until her appointment as Director General during 2010.
On technology website, MyBroadBand, user House stated: “Fact is, if she signed a R40m agreement, Elzabe Rockman should go to jail for 15 years for corruption. If she lied and it was in fact R140m she should go the same time and be tossed into a male prison.”
I don’t know if she’s still using this number but you can try give her a piece of your mind at 082 465 7522.
