There was an outcry by the opposition at the last Knysna Governance & Economic Development meeting which was held on August 5 2014. In the Capital Budget report it was revealed that the Executive & Council had overspent their budget by R481 656, a consequence of the fancy new offices for DA politicians and Municipal Manager, Lauren Waring. Despite the fact that their original budget of R3 778 000 had been increased to a whopping R5 214 000, they still went over the new budget by 9%. COPE’s representative, Elrick van Aswegen, gave strong criticism: “Do we really need these … ‘Click here to read full article…’
Before i get to the nitty-gritty figures, let me remind you that that has been the attitude of the Knysna Municipality of Knysna, particular the Democratic Alliance and their partner in crime, Municipal Manager, Lauren Waring. My example may have been the state of Tourism under Shaun Eck but the bigger view is a divided Knysna that’s run by “leaders” who believe in closed doors and cronyism. I face inexperienced Councillors who vary between being headless chickens and not having the will to fight for what’s right. If you met them, you’d be fearful that so many don’t have the abilities to fulfill their positions, especially relating to the portfolios they’ve been given. That covers … ‘Click here to read full article…’
This past Friday, on day #55 of battling to get answers regarding Knysna Tourism, i finally had a meeting with the DA. This included Mayor Georlene Wolmarans, Deputy Mayor Michelle Wasserman and Councilor Esmé Edge. Additionally, the latter two have been appointed to the Tourism Board, Michelle heads the Financial Committee and Esmé Infrastructure. I was in good company considering the topics. There were no cookies and coffee but they definitely get credit for politeness. I’d also held back on blogging the previous week as a gesture of good will and in the hope that the meeting would be productive. … ‘Click here to read full article…’
