It’s crazy that in our era of liberal sexuality, human rights and AIDS, there are people offended by this advert. It may not be a great advert but it’s trying to do the right thing. Allegedly, some broadcasters won’t show it. Those that can’t respond like a member of modern civilisation (or acknowledge that after thousands of years of gay history, gays aren’t an anomaly), should try diverting their attention to South Africa’s unemployed 10 million, Nkandla’s not-so-lekker fire pool or the popularity of the obnoxious Donald Trump in the world’s most dangerous nation. Ireland has become the first country to legalise same-sex marriage through a popular vote. Considering that many of its citizens were brought up through Catholic schools, it’s a remarkable improvement for human rights. Wouldn’t it be cool if the divisive Northern Ireland were next? I love how one man summed up the moment with, “I have a 30 year old gay daughter. In all her life, I have never heard her say she was proud to be Irish.
