This family is camping in Salt River after Deputy Mayor Peter Myers said at the meeting on July 3 that it isn’t the responsibility to provide shelter to the victims of the Knysna Fire. They’re a family who knows how to live rough, having been without electricity and water for one and a half years. But having no roof and the security of walls, just a small broken tent, is severely challenging. They’ve now had to let their children live with a lady they know from a church. The mom and her boyfriend are camping. But so there’s some positive in this story, a member of the public at that meeting dropped off a good tent for them the following day. Community spirit, again, rules.
This is the most cruel, heartless, bitchy statement i’ve read in Knysna. It’s horrendous that after victims of the Knysna fire were refused help by Deputy Mayor Peter Myers, his wife, Candace Myers, made a post on social media as if the victims were being unreasonable and that he and she were the victims of the meeting. That meeting was their disaster unless you measure success in cruelty. They are out of touch with us common folk, riding a horse way too high for them to call us neighbour, let alone pretend that he’s our representative. Here’s her full speech: … ‘Click here to read full article…’
The response to the survivors of the Knysna Fire is to not help him. The Disaster Feedback Meeting was a disaster for Deputy Mayor Peter Myers and the Democratic Alliance. There was immense dissatisfaction, assuring several hundred people will never vote for him again. However, he’s chosen to lie about what happened, pretending that that majority supported him and that our justified objections came from an unreasonable minority. He conveniently forgets he and i previously had a polite meeting in which we discussed victim necessities and other things off the record. The outcome of that meeting was nothing, probably just … ‘Click here to read full article…’
The Knysna Fire disaster continues, now with the Democratic Alliance versus the victims. Tonight, the meeting at the Angling Club was definitive proof that the DA doesn’t care about Knysna. I’m not making political statement, as i don’t support any of our politicians, but here the DA rules. It was made perfectly clear that Peter Myers, Ward 10 Councillor and Deputy Mayor, was the ‘Them’ in the ‘Us versus Them’, instead of being our elected representative. It was disgraceful that Mayor Eleonore Spies wasn’t there, maybe because there were no TV cameras. Only one director, Marlene Boyce, bothered to turn … ‘Click here to read full article…’
Our politicians don’t care about Knysna’s fire victims. Proof of that arrived strongly last night! Yesterday, i posted a blog requesting that fire victims, especially the homeless, to please contact me. I want us to meet, discuss our challenges and decide if we need our own committee to deal with the Knysna Municipality which hasn’t meaningfully dealt with us in 21 days – yes, it’s exactly 3 weeks since the fire of June 7. The correct response from our politicians or municipal officials should’ve been to catch a wake-up call and do the best they can to make amends. EVIL … ‘Click here to read full article…’
It’s cold up on that hill of poor people that overlooks the riches of Knysna. Instead of developers taking advantage of the best view in Knysna, White Location is home to tin shacks and small houses. The Great Fire of Knysna has left 1000 homeless, some living in community halls but with most squeezing in with family members and friends already living in challenging conditions. Children of Winter play among broken glass, nails, crumbling concrete and rusty corrugated sheets. Not wanting the too-often-forgotten excluded from an independent documentary about human spirit, i took a film crew there yesterday. Unlike the … ‘Click here to read full article…’
It was an experiment in the USA but the child actor must have been freezing for real. Look at all the people bundled up in warm clothes ignoring the cold, homeless child on the pavement. Ignored for two hours until A HOMELESS MAN offered help. There is apathy and willful in Knysna too. People who look to long at bad things around them without doing anything about it eventually don’t see anything at all. Maybe it’s their minds protecting their ego from thinking they’re helpless. But they’re not helpless. You’re not helpless. You can always help someone. And you can, … ‘Click here to read full article…’
A Street Kid Diary Every raindrop hits me! In winter night, my skin reads the newspaper and I awake educated to the street The cold colds The robot beckons me to beg a coin Dressing in my unhappy face (they don’t know that the unhappiest shows nothing), I jostle with the Coca-Cola man to get my tax relief Later, I’ve got my bread and single cigarette and I’m playing hide-and-hide with the older boys Thank God, they don’t see the angel in my pocket so soon I’m sniffing her all the way to Heaven Sure, I’ve got no shoes and … ‘Click here to read full article…’
