Knysna has a hung council. The DA’s options are a deal with either COPE, the KUC or the ACDP. Regards coalition talks, the Western Cape ACDP posted this on their Facebook page yesterday: “The ACDP has a king maker option in Knysna, which we are considering. The unexpected deadlock in Knysna is said to have taking the blue wave by surprise, but according to sources in the town, the DA was leaning towards an alliance with Cope, instead of the ACDP. The ACDP’s Grant Haskin said his party did make gains in Knysna, which they were happy with. He hinted … ‘Click here to read full article…’
What went wrong for the DA in Knysna? How did they drop from dictatorship joy to hung Council? Firstly, credit must go where it’s deserved. Donovan Pofadder was the DA’s big surprise. They worked hard to win the new ward but i don’t believe that they could’ve expected it. Pofadder spectacularly clinched the 6th win for his party. With the DA at 6, ANC 3, COPE 1, an independent 1, it seemed as if the DA would take at least 5 of the 10 PR seats that were waiting to be allocated, thus giving them total control. But initial DA … ‘Click here to read full article…’
Is Councillor Elrick van Aswegen’s a flip-flopper for Knysna or himself? His longevity as a politician is remarkable. His political survival skills may surpass his obvious intelligence and good sense of humour. But “Who is the real Elrick van Aswegen?” has become an important question. In a town that has, again, being divided by power struggle, he may be the Kingmaker when the 2016 Municipal Elections take place. There’s irony in Van Aswegen’s history… Internal politics found Knysna Community Forum (KCF), the party he belonged to, imploding in 2006. He quit as chairman only to watch new chairman Donald Kemoetie, … ‘Click here to read full article…’
Protests by the poor are this decade’s zeitgeist (spirit of the age). There was another service delivery protest in Knysna yesterday as residents from White Location marched to hand Mayor Georlene Wolmarans demands for electricity, toilets and housing. Such actions stir mixed feelings inside of me. As my readers will know, i’m highly critical of Knysna’s dishonest DA but ANC shirts leading anti-DA placards smacks of hypocrisy. How many of these same people protested when the ANC was in charge?'Click here to read full article...'
Achille Mbembe: “Crime is fast destroying the moral fabric of South African cities and is becoming a major threat to South African democracy as well as the prominent manifestation of a class war that is largely a continuation of the race war of yesterday.” CRIME SURGE IN KNYSNA I’m well aware of crime, having experienced much of it in Durban. I’ve seen enough blood. I know what it’s like to fear for my life. Once settled in Knysna, i was a realist and expressed to others that Knysna was simply ahead of the curve and that crime was inescapable due … ‘Click here to read full article…’
Garden Route media bias continues with none, so far, having reported the major news of the ANC and COPE walking out of the Knysna Council meeting on September 29 2011. That was 7 days ago. Unlike surrounding municipalities, there’s been a tight grip by the DA on information with few media willing to report both sides. Instead, a distorted version of events makes the rumour mill and does nothing to further truth nor the productivity of the Knysna Municipality. It had been a 3hr meeting before the walkout occurred. As i never had the agenda before me, i was momentarily … ‘Click here to read full article…’
Today is day #48 in my struggle for transparency from the Municipality and Tourism. In a democracy, it should not be this hard. As an update, i’ve met with several ANC members, including councillors, who had concerns of their own. COPE requested Tourism’s budget at the council’s financial meeting. I heard from another source that the municipality doesn’t have it. That has resulted in them now chasing up on Shaun van Eck, Knysna Tourism’s CEO. Finally, and thankfully, 2 DA councilors contacted me. I hope for a meeting next week. Production is more preferable than destruction!'Click here to read full article...'
