For two-and-a-half years, the DA-led Knysna Municipality has supported a seemingly illegal tender award that will determine the future of its 72 000 citizens. The ISDF (Integrated Strategic Development Framework) is meant to be the blueprint for Knysna for the next 30 years. It determines everything from where development will be permitted and infrastructure spent. If rumours are true that Knysna is a test case for the Western Province, then the implications are far greater. Despite loud opposition from the public, the DA and the Municipality have been determined to support a new consortium with questionable property developer links. It … ‘Click here to read full article…’
For this complaint, I draw upon the work of activist and ex-prosecutor, Susan Campbell. She is the expert in this matter, explaining better than any of my blogs have. This matter is of the utmost importance for it decides the future of Knysna: On the 15th of April 2013, the Knysna Municipality appointed Chris Mulder’s consortium, known as Knysna Creative Heads (KCH), to prepare an Integrated Strategic Development Framework (ISDF) for Knysna. The ISDF is essentially a process to review a number of legally mandated policy documents for the Knysna Municipality. The documents that are being reviewed are the Spatial … ‘Click here to read full article…’
This is a very important and urgent matter because little or no transformation has been done in the forestry sector. These matters have also been highlighted at the Imbizo in Tsitsikamma. What channels should we follow to add action to the recommendation made? What type of support could we expect from Government? This sector is much untransformed. All the wealth and opportunities are still in the hands of the White minority except for Cape Pine that also has a long way to go with regards to transformation. This is a sector of great potential and, as the Deputy President has … ‘Click here to read full article…’
The Western Cape Forestry Stakeholders Forum (WCFSF) arose out of the Southern Cape Social & Economic Development Forestry Forum (SCSEDFF) that was formed last year to address forestry issues. The main issues were human rights abuses in forestry communities like Brackenhill, Ruigtevlei & Karatara by organizations like PG Bison, SANParks & Cape Nature Conservation. SANParks has subsequently come to meetings and have addressed some of the issues. PG Bison and Cape Nature Conservation have refused to attend any meeting or to come to the party to address the issues. PG Bison has no interest re resolve any matter or to … ‘Click here to read full article…’
Mayor Georlene Wolmarans and Deputy Mayor Esmé Edge have taken digs at me in the Knysna-Plett Herald this week. Attempts to discredit me are not the same as earning credit by answering the tough questions! They have also misrepresented facts so as to distance themselves from problematic issues. I correct them in 6 points but request that you please pop over to read Wolmarans’ interview online (you’ll see my comments there too): 1. Regards me, Mayor Georlene Wolmarans cannot speak of ‘balance’ and ‘both sides’ when some DA councillors and Municipal Manager Lauren Waring have banned communication with me for … ‘Click here to read full article…’
I have a challenge for the DA, in particular Helen Zille and Alan Winde who have failed to acknowledge the struggles Knysna is experiencing. Accepting my challenge with positive intention, decision and action would stop the majority of my criticism of the DA. It would even make me vote for you. I say that sincerely.'Click here to read full article...'
The ISDF tender topic has been a heated affair but has dwindled from regular conversation whilst we wait for the authorities to make decisions (justice is slow…but it is moving). However, it resurfaced with a comment by someone calling his or her self Curious. I’ve labelled it as an “attack” as it was done anonymously. I can’t recall anyone who wasn’t anonymous (or an acquaintance of a person i’ve criticized) ever making a valid counter argument on any topic on this website. Knysna expresses a lack of bravery to stand by one’s opinion. And, as per usual, the actual topic … ‘Click here to read full article…’
In approximately 2008, Cobus Venter, who was part of Dr. Chris Mulder’s Uitzicht team and introduced at the open day as the manager-to-be of the Uitzicht plantation, became plantation manager of PG Bison. The Western Heads Protection Group (WHPG) had collected some funds and wanted to approach Barlows with a plan to manage the fynbos on the Uitzicht land once it had been harvested. PG Bison refused to harvest their trees, despite the notice given four years earlier and despite the fact that the trees on their land of the same age had been harvested years ago. Initially we were … ‘Click here to read full article…’
I was suppose to post Part 4: PG Bison Bullies Environmentalists? today but i’ve had to hold it back as lawyers for the environmentalists have called “sub judice” i.e. i cannot describe material which would prejudice court proceedings by publication. This will also give PG Bison more time to prepare comment. As soon as i’m given an all clear, you will be the first to know.'Click here to read full article...'
On the 29 of November 2012, the Knysna Municipality employed Chris Mulder and CMAI to prepare a structure plan for Rheenendal. The Steinhoff plantations are now managed by PG Bison, a subsidiary of Steinhoff Ltd. PG Bison purchased the forestry interests and land owned by PJ van Rheenen. PG Bison intend closing the pole-yard in Rheenendal. This will lead to further unemployment in the area. In response to this, PG Bison employed Dr. Mulder to investigate the development of an industrial area as well as a residential development of some 500 houses catering for higher and middle-income earners and possibly … ‘Click here to read full article…’
