It has come to the municipality’s attention that there are people in Knysna approaching homeowners in the CBD saying that they have a contract with Eskom to install pre-payment meters for R350.00. They complete application forms, take ID numbers and take a picture of the homeowner. Once the homeowner makes the R350.00 payment, they say that they will bring the receipt when they install the meter. Needless to say these people never return to the homeowner. The Knysna Municipality has issued this information. It will be of particular interest to those of you in arrears. It is Council’s intention to introduce prepayment electricity throughout the entire Knysna Municipal area, i.e. to all consumers as far as is practically possible. This process will run over a three to five year period whereby all households with existing credit electricity meters, will be converted to pre-payment electricity meters.
