SANParks management in the Garden Route National Park today confirmed the recent tragic death of one of the Park’s Environmental Monitors. The employee, who worked from the Knysna section of the Garden Route National Park (GRNP), was found murdered. Her name cannot be released as yet until her family is notified. Staff at SANParks have received the news with shock and sadness. SANParks is working closely with SAPS to investigate the matter. Statement by SANParks.
Don’t be alarmed if you see smoke and flames in Harkerville, Knysna today. It’s planned, ecological block burning aimed at protecting fynbos. SANParks Area Manager for Knysna, Johan de Klerk, said that, “Fynbos is a vegetation type which is adapted to fire and more so, dependent on fire. Many species only recruit after a fire as fire stimulates seed release and germination.
