Velile Waxa, a former ANC councillor, seemed an odd choice as coalition partner for the Democratic Alliance (DA). More so when considering that he, as a Knysna Municipality employee, had been suspended for allegedly leading a protest that blocked the N2. DOOMED COALITION It was strongly rumoured that the DA had given financial assistance to Waxa’s 2016 election campaign. I questioned both Waxa and DA Deputy Mayor Peter Myers. Neither would confirm but neither would they deny. Attention Executive Mayor Eleonore Bouw-Spies: I’m protesting the DA, Helen Zille, James Selfe etc. not only because they have failed us but especially because you have. You will have been aware of my protest since i kindly gave you the opportunity to explain yourself, you responding by issuing a ‘press release’ of lies against me, the same weekend your DA ran a nasty propaganda campaign against me. Knysna Special Council Meeting Today, September 29 2016: That it’s “special” suggests something interesting is happening. It seems as if the fight for control over property and land continues. One item is regarding decisions made by suspended Municipal Manager Grant Easton whilst the Council was on leave. Another is regards the Planning Tribunal, something that was done and dusted but strangely challenged last week at a Section 80 meeting.by new councillors, particularly Velile Waxa, the DA’s coalition partner.
